German 1E, Section 1 December 7, 2007 Movie Extra Credit Opportunity Absolute Giganten After watching this comedy, life film, I added it to my favorite movies list, which is not very long. The reason I liked it so much was that it contains humor while still staying true to the seriousness of the situation. It is about how three friends in Hamburg, Germany spend their last night together before one of them, Floyd, leaves to travel the world. Of course, I had to use the subtitles to my advantage, but there were many instances when I did not have to resort to them either because I could understand the German or because they were speaking with a mix of English and commonly used colloquialisms. So, the night starts off with the group running into an assembly of Elvis impersonators. Ricco decides to drive “Chubby’s” car off of a ramp and into a large Elvis board. The billboard breaks and the friends run away while being pursued by the impersonators. Later on, the Elvis group finds them and beats down their car.

After several more incidents, the night was over, and the group slept outside near the port. The next morning, Floyd woke up first and the movie ended with him taking one last look at his friends. The film was filled with comic and classic scenes, but it also had its own seriousness. One could say that it is similar to Herald and Kumar , which is a bit more suggestive. However, Absolute Giganten is better in a sense that it almost gave me a slice of life feeling and it had universal meaning, both characteristics which helped it to become an award winning film....
