So How Did This Happen? 1) Globalization:  Cheap labor/production costs led to rapid increase in direct foreign  investment in China. 2) Economic development increasing more rapidly than  social/structural development – Hernando De Soto. 3) Weak/lax Chinese environmental and safety standards 4) Lack of proper implementation/attention to detail to environmental  and safety standards by both Chinese public and private sectors. 5) Lack of “Universal” environmental and product safety standards standards vary from one country to another. 6) Inadequate responsibility by foreign Multi-national corporations however, prior to the “lead” crisis, with the exception of  philanthropic  reasoning, there was little incentive to up standards.

The sustainable marketing mix is the desired situation as we can see with China, not all publicity is good and can sometimes reduce foreign investment. Chinas Reaction Asian culture is very concerned with saving face and upholding their reputation word of mouth is powerful. Response was similar to that of American corporations Wanted to admit fault as little as possible However, when the evidence is pilled up, swift action is taken.
