07.01 Evaluating a Speaker Worksheet Element of the Speech What the Speaker Says Effect on the Audience Claim What is the speaker’s claim? The speaker claims that texting while driving is dangerous and kills. You may think that it will never happen to you, that you'll never get in an accident, but it can happen to anyone. It happens to roughly 1.6 million people every year. This claim has an emotional effect on the audience. It makes them want to stop texting while driving since so many people have died from it. Point of View From whose point of view is the speech told? The point of view of this speech is first person because they each use the pronoun "I" when talking. For example, "I think everything about my life changed." Using first person point of view can help to put the audience in the speaker’s shoes. It's easier to connect with someone when you're been repeatedly told this is how I felt, rather than someone else telling how they felt.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
