Javier Cordova History146 005263072 Liberty is not just defined as the ability to do as one pleases, but as the freedom in a society from oppressive restrictions imposed onto an individual. The ideals of this liberty in America have been defined as the pursuit of freedom amongst all, and declare that all Americans (regardless of color, age, ethnic background, religion/politics, or gender) support and fight for independence. The American spirit has been portrayed within the history of the U.S.A. as the call for liberty which has been answered with immense sacrifice, and this call fuels the spirit to continue the fight. This spirit is engraved into our past with the successes that was conquered by those who fought and sacrificed for it. However, this American identity and spirit is not only limited to those who have lived onto this land, and does not just mystically give unalienable birth rights to those citizens from this land. The American way is an attitude to fight for what is morally right for the human being. Many other leaders throughout the world have strived for victory and liberty against an oppressive opposition, and has displayed this American ideology. As the nation has grown we have seen what America strives for which is progress to constitute what an American is; However, evidence has shown that America has not directly constituted what an American is, but who an American is. The nation has been founded off of ideas of individualism and rights of freedom that cannot be taken away, but certain groups do not get the same treatment as those who identify as white or rich. Given the facts that our American government has discriminated minorities throughout history, it is hard to say what being an American means. Is it through the colors of our skin, or the location from which we originate? Does the white race or wealthier have more validation on what being more American means?

Our country values our liberating diversity and culture, yet the nation has clear evidence on oppression amongst the immigrants that come here to seek liberty from their native lands. Our founders were alongside those who have escaped oppressive forces on liberties of an individual being, but were not suppressed severely by Native beings.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
