Test Two Review Questions 1) What three different types of skills do individuals have to learn? How do these different skills influence training individuals in organizations? a. The situation, the behavioral response and the consequence of the response. b. These affect an organization by helping associates learn from passed mistakes as well as understand reinforcement better. 2) Suppose you are a manager in a fine dining restaurant, you are required to train the host person. Which of the three skill types will you emphasize and how will it change what you do in your training program? a. The behavioral response because the situation is continuously the same but the host must react in the same manner to help evoke good feelings in the moment of truth. b. Training program i. Determine the new behavior necessary ii. Break the behavior into smaller, logical segments iii. Demonstrate the desired behavior. Point out distinctly the most important premises of job. iv. Have the trainee practice in front o the trainer. v. Make reinforcement contingent on desired behaviors with limiting reinforcement over time to only actions closest to the desired behavior. 3) What is the connection between these two words: Plateau and Frustration? a. Individuals become frustrated as they plateau in an action because they feel the action and reward should be occurring in faster intervals. 4) What is the connection between the terms: frustration and golf lesson? a. Sales of golf lessons are in packages because frustration would occur on an individual basis and so this forces a person to persevere and beat the frustration. 5) How does your understanding of the difference between adult expectations and reality in learning influence your job as the operations manager in a hotel/ restaurant? a. Adults expect to continue to advance and succeed and learn which is not how reality actually occurs. Reality has proven that the learning curve slows and there is a cap to an ability to better oneself. b. A manager must understand this and be there to help with support for questions, and failures throughout the training process and the role as an associate. 6) What happens in the valleys when we refer to group learning processes? a. The frustration has reached an extreme which causes the group to actually regress in their ability to perform however, once the group excels through impasse their increase in ability is even greater than before.
