Emmanuel Adigwu CMLIT 05 2/19/2017 Close Reading Assignment The Doll Queen The word choice in the short story The Doll Queen was very unique I thought because using words like “retrospective” and “delirium” it shows the difference of word choice and style that one might usually see. I say this because usually when I am reading short stories there is not much of a complexity of words, but in this one I noticed there to be slightly more complex words being used throughout, especially on this page 357. To me, “retrospective delirium” in this context means that in his mind, he could be subconsciously forming thoughts that never happened, hinting at the slight possibility of him going crazy with a pint of satire used; a beautiful combination of words. The structure here is most notable. The passage starts off by describing a memory of the protagonist and comparing it to a nostalgic feeling. He takes us back to a time where he used to have fun with the seven year-old girl and how they would tumble down the hills and all. Then
