Edith Ornelas January 4, 2017 COM302 Culture Autobiography I have always associated myself as a Mexican American because I have always felt proud to be of Mexican decent. My mother was born in Jalisco, Mexico while my father was born in Michoacán, Mexico. I grew up in a bilingual home, which Spanish and English was spoken. Once or twice a year we would go visit my maternal grandparents in Mexico or just simply take a vacation there. Spanish was heavily spoken if not always around my grandparents due to them not speaking or understanding very much English. In my culture this was also a sign of respect for them because I was taught it was rude to speak another language in front of them when they do not understand it. My mother experience of being a migrant worker and also being taught to do womanly chores at a very young age played a major part in how we were raised. My mom raised us four girls with strong work ethics and made sure we knew to do our womanly chores. In the Hispanic culture a girl must be taught to cook, clean, do laundry, and
