Inc. _Murdered in barbershop, 1957. _New Boss: Carlo Gambino. _Paul Castellano succeeded him. _Murdered December 16, 1985 outside Sparks’ Steakhouse in midtown Manhattan. 3. GAMBINO FAMILY _New Boss: John Gotti. _But it was not a sanctioned hit. _Underboss brought him $100,000 per month as his %-age of Gambino Family income. _High-profile. Attracted attention. _Convicted of racketeering. Life sentence, _Died of throat cancer in prison hospital June 2002. 4. LUCIANO/GENOVESE FAMILY _After Luciano went to prison in 1936, Frank Costello took over. _Vincent “the Chin” Gigante failed an attempted hit on Costello. _Several months later, Albert Anastasia, boss of another crime family, was murdered. Costello decided to retire. _Vito Genovese took over as boss. 5. LUCIANO/GENOVESE FAMILY _Considered the most powerful crime family in the US.
