Violence is as American as cherry pie (Stokely Carmichael) Homicide rates are perhaps best index Hard to “fiddle” Homicide rates 6 per 100,000 30 per 100,000 in some age groups (e.g. 18-24) 100 to 300 per 100,000 in some age, gender, race, & community groups At a rate of 300/100,000 one would expect 2 of every 100 18 year olds to be murdered before age 25

Homicide rates 6 people per year per 100,000 population 30 per 100,000 in some age groups (e.g. 18-24) 100 to 300 per 100,000 in some age, gender, race, At a rate of 300/100,000 one would expect 2 of every 100 18 year olds to be murdered before age 25 CONCLUSION: Violence should be a concern!
