Lauren Kutner Edpsy 010 Jan 28 2008 HW 1 1. a. Donor insemination is the process by which sperm from an anonymous man is injected into a woman. It is used for couples where the male has reproductive difficulties. It also enables a woman to get pregnant without a male partner. b. In vitro insemination is the process by which a woman is administered hormones to stimulate the ripening of the ova. These ova are then removed from the woman and placed in a dish of nutrients to which sperm is then added. Once the ova and sperm fertilize the cells are injected into the woman’s uterus. This method is used when a woman’s fallopian tubes have been damaged or when a man has a fertility problem. c. Yes I agree with the selective reduction procedure. If methods exist that can make the child a daughter, then I believe it is the right of the parents to be able to decide whether they want to reduce the number of fetuses carried by the woman. New parents may have a hard time adjusting to multiple births or may not be financially
