Plotkin Article topic and main points : In Plotkin’s piece, he delves deep into the world of South American shamanism to uncover its healing secrets, explain the power it holds in indigenous societies and examine the relationship between the practices of medicine men and modern, Western science. His vivid accounts of participating in an ayahuasca ritual, or toma, are effective in conveying the power that these healing vision sessions and their shamans possess. Plotkin also attempts to dispel the myth that shamans are just primitive, ritualistic magicians who utilize little if any scientific or botanic knowledge.
