Main Question Post NURS 6053 Interprofessional Organizational and Systems Leadership Transitioning from Closed to an Open System In the unit that I work, I have noticed that there is inadequate communication between the physicians and consulting physicians. The physicians often come to the bedside to ask the nurse what the consulting physician said several days before. The physicians do not seem to of communicate with one another of even read each other’s notes. This practice puts unnecessary stress on the nurses in the unit. In the process of diagnosing, treating, and discharging communication is the key (McSherry, Pearce, McSherry, & Grimwood, 2012). There have been several times that I have seen patients have a delay in treatment of discharge because of the lack of communication. A closed-system model has an adverse effect on public accountability because it does not allow for transferring of information, energy, or material from the responsible party to an outside source (Marquis & Huston, 2015).
