M 3.3 | Recruitment and Employee Selection The Role and Fit | Notes DOES ‘FIT’ BELONG IN SELECTION? 3 types of cultural or personal ‘fit’ - Person – job fit - Person – organisation or person – environment fit - Person – term/group fit Candidate ‘fit’ Person – job & person – organisation fit - P-J if how selection was focused prior to the late 1980’s, i.e.: direct match between the applicant and discrete job – just abilities, qualifications and experience ‘fit’ - P-O includes the perspective of the whole organisation and the future of the individual, as well as the culture and values of the organisation Person – group fit - Interpersonal compatibility between the individual and their work groups [Kristof, 1996] - The most under researched of the areas until recently – now one of great interest due to interest in the development of team management - Has been based on personality traits to fir a team [e.g. Myers – Briggs preferences) plus demographic similarity
