CEGR4123 ­ Bridge Design Course CEGR4123 Cross­Listed Courses CEGR5123 ­ Bridge Design Catalog Data Review of bridge design codes and loadings; superstructure and substructure design of short, intermediate, and long span bridges constructed of steel and concrete; earthquake design; segmental and cable­stayed bridges. Credit Hours 3 Most Recently Offered Has not been offered in the last three years. References Design of Modern Steel Highway Bridges, Heins and Firmage Design of Modern Concrete Highway Bridges, Heins and Lawrie AASHTO Bridge Code (note: these do NOT need to be purchased for this class) Goals The Course objectives are: 1) Familiarity with bridge terminology 2) Exposure to design of highway bridges, top to bottom Students who complete this course will (a) be able to identify bridge types, as well as components of a bridge, (b) be able to understand how loadings are applied to bridges for design, and (c) be able to design a typical bridge (deck slab, beams, bearings, joints, piers, abutments, walls) Prerequisite(s) CEGR 3221 and 3225 or consent of CE advisor.
