Case Study 9 1 Achieving Success in Virtual Teams 1. Describe the attributes that contribute to the success of virtual teams and those that contribute to the failure of virtual teams. Success and failure of a virtual team can be determined through two different attributes such as effectiveness of communication and stimulating work (Nelson & Quick, 2013). Self-motivation among team members, desires of developing social contract and extraordinary communication skills are some attributes that contributes to the success of virtual teams (Meyer, 2010). On the other hand, if the team members would not have the zeal to work with a self-reliant approach and concern for instructions to do their job and follow responsibility, it will lead the failure of virtual team (Haines, 2014). Communication ambiguity among members is also an attribute of failure. 2. Discuss the extent to which the characteristics of well- functioning, effective groups overlap the attributes that contribute to the success of virtual teams.
