Today, we discussed questions about the Midnight Robber. As these were my questions, I found them all interesting but one thing that made me really think was the question aboutDry Bone being a representation of “Bad Tan Tan” Dry Bone is duppy, which in my cultural experience, is pretty scary. I remember specifically that my mom would tell me not to enter the house unless i walked backwards after midnight. This was to keep the duppy from latching onto your back and entering your house to make your life a all living hell. Whether or not you believe ghosts are real, I definitely believe that Dry Bone was supposed to be Bad Tan-Tan in the physical realm. Bad Tan Tan appeared after Tan Tan had been raped by her father so many times, and it seems like she enjoyed what was happening to her, at least the attention from her dad. She also seemed to be the one that most mocked Tant Tan for killing her father even though Tan Tan knows it was purely for self-defense and deservedly so. Because of Bad Tan
