Date: April 17, 2017 To: Mr. Hutchins From: Tiago Sousa Re: Research Proposal with Gantt chart Introduction: The purpose of this proposal is to present this research question: Can the water crisis be solved with smart personal decisions and engineering solutions? This research question will bring awareness to how much water is used daily and to assure the reader that with the combination of personal decisions and engineering solutions, this resource crisis can be mitigated, if not solved, all together. This research will provide information about the current water situation, offer ways to conserve water, and inform the reader about innovations and existing engineering solutions being used in the water crisis. This proposal will include the following sections: the current situation, the project plan, a Gantt chart, my qualifications, costs and benefits, conclusion, and bibliography. Current Situation: Water is on track to be the most important resource of the 21st century. It could soon replace oil as the most needed resource to maintain the current world growth. But water is a very complicated resource to research. First, water has no alternative. While alternatives exist for oil, such as wind or solar, water cannot be substituted. Second, water is linked with many sectors of society. For example, energy production requires water for cooling power plants and fracturing shale; Agriculture needs water for irrigation; Industry and cities use trillions of gallons of water daily. Third, water demands are constantly growing and the amount of water we have remains the same. Finally, climate change is expected to intensify droughts and floods, meaning humanity will be confronted with questions that have never been answered before. Project Plan: The plan shown below has three steps that I will be taking to finish the research project. Each task is listed in the Gantt chart. My research will come from multiple sources and cited at the end of the proposal.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
