Presentation 375 points Take Home Midterm 140 points Final Exam 130 points Extra Credit (2 assignments @ 25 pts each) Your final grade is based on the following point scale: A+ = 970 - 1000 points A = 930 - 969 points A- 900 — 929 points B = 330 - 869 points B- = 800 - 829 points C = 730 - 769 points D = 630 - 669 points —_ F = 599 and fewer points Case Studies Assignment (7.5%) -The Case Studies assignment is a multi-week comprehensive assignment to practice media literacy through critical thinking skills, scholarly writing practices, and group discussion. Participation (18%)— You are expected to contribute to all class discussions. It is mandatory that you contribute to the discussion of the Case Studies assignments. You will also be given written assignments, both homework and in-class, that are worth participation points, provided your answers are thoughtful and thorough. Research Regort and Presentation (37.5%) — After choosing a media topic, you will explain the history of the topic, your interest (including your thesis), and give a brief overview of the 4 research sources you used, one of which will be an article from a scholarly journal (using in-text citations in this section). Each research source will then be evaluated separately (looking at the author’s education, work experience, facts from the article, and your critical thinking about this source). Within the report you will apply two class concepts, and a mass comm theory. In the conclusion you will reflect upon what you learned about your topic as well as the research process itself. You will attach a References page to the end of your report. Complete instructions are in this Class Workbook. Take Home Midterm (14%) - This assignment will have you evaluate a news website, investigating and writing about their business philosophy, awards won, corrections, staff, earnings, and then reflecting upon what you learned by going through this process. Complete instructions are in this Class Workbook. Final Exam (13%) — No scantrons are necessary. Details will be provided as we get closer to the date. Extra Credit Opportunity —I provide 2 extra credit assignments. Each assignment is worth a maximum of 25 points if done thoughtfully, thoroughly, and following the instructions. ...
