ENGL 1010 Prewriting Prewriting will help you focus your subject, narrow and define topics, develop ideas, begin drafting, and identify gaps in information. Try various prewriting exercises to find which works for your style and the topic. Brainstorming is a process of generating a lot of information within a short time by building on the association of previous terms you have mentioned. Much like freewriting, brainstorming involves capturing all of the thoughts, ideas, and fragments in your head and writing them down on paper. Often, brainstorming looks more like a list while freewriting may look more like a paragraph. With either strategy, your goal is to get as many ideas down on paper as you can. Jot down all the possible terms that emerge from the general topic you are thinking about. This procedure works especially well if you work in a team. All team members can generate ideas, with one member acting as scribe. Don't worry about editing or throwing out what might not be a good idea. Simply write down a lot of possibilities. Listing is a more structured and sequential overview of a topic. You may also outline to organize topics built from free writing, brainstorming, or mind mapping. Begin by brainstorming to generate ideas on the topic. Group the items that you have listed according to arrangements that make sense to you. Give each group a label. Now you have a topic with possible points of development.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
