The most common definition for multimedia is that it is the collective utilization of several media types such as audio, graphics, texts, photographs, animation, and video (George-Palilonis, 3). This definition, however, misses the sense of complexity that arises in producing, conceptualizing, and packaging multimedia content. Audience Trends In the modern times, information is more accessible than before. The report released by the 2010 Pew Research Center indicate that digital platforms play an imperative role in the consumption of news and they have caused a decline of an audience for the traditional platforms (George-Palilonis 5). The findings from the report are important because they show that although people get information from different sources, consumption of news is a popular activity (George-Palilonis, 5). The report is also important because it reveals that the Americans spending on the news is at levels that it has never been from the mid-1990s.

The Evolving Media Landscape The Internet has brought dramatic changes in the way human beings live, work, and engage with their counterparts. Internet has also become a catalyst for the changes in how news and information are delivered. It has led to increasing in the circulation of ideas, altered the economy, and social networks. Besides, the web has made anybody with a computer to be a potential media provider (George-Palilonis 7). Social media plays an imperative role in the way news is transmitted and consumed. Currently, journalists can use sites like FriendFeed, in creating private, instant chat networks where experts can assist them to come up with stories. The Multimedia Journalists Defining a good journalist has been a complex issue, and it has been complicated further by evolution in storytelling. However, good journalists are expected to possess some key standards and ethics such as accuracy, objectivity, truthfulness and fairness. Although several changes have taken place in technology journalists should learn how to become good reporters (George-Palilonis, 12). Some important concepts to all the multimedia journalist include: Developing strong writing skills Understanding how stories are told on different platforms. Being confident, adaptable, flexible, and versatile. Ability to mine and comprehend complicated data sets. Understand the role played by digital asset management. Have the ability to assess multimedia potential from a story and decide the story that is the most appropriate. CHAPTER 3: Planning Multimedia Writers are encouraged to consider platforms in which their stories appear to write accordingly.
