Bullock 1 D’Shealyn Bullock Professor Myer English 101 28 September 2016 Superb Mom: Narrative Essay Typically, a dog is a man’s best friend, but in my case, my mom is my best friend. Strong, determined, caring, loving, honest and easy to talk to describes my mom. When I was younger, I did not feel comfortable in telling her about my personal issues. I felt closer to my dad than her. I did not like or enjoy talking to my mom on a personal level because I thought she really did not understand me. As I grew up, I felt comfortable with telling her anything that was on my mind. We grew closer because of my maturity that started to develop. Old routines started to fade away while new routines were established which consist of us bonding a lot more. My mom is my best friend forever. My mom changed my life through her career choices, her sacrifices, her strength, and her ability to maintain a close bond with me. My mom was only fourteen years old when she worked at her first job, fast-food. She wanted to become a nurse. Go to college for nursing, get a degree, and soon be a certified nurse; her dreams. Everything does not work out as smooth as planned however, my mom had a backup. After attending college for two years, she dropped out because she wanted money to support herself. She went into the workforce doing administrative work to save money to soon be independent and rent her first apartment at the age of nineteen. After putting a hold on her dreams of being a nurse, she went to trade school years later for medical assistant. While in trade school she worked as a sale’s associate at a home improvement store called Lowe’s. After work

Bullock 2 every day, she went to trade school and soon completed every course needed for medical assistant certification. Now, she is a certified medical assistant. My mom changed my life through her career choices because she never was afraid to try something new nor was she afraid to take an extra step in order to accomplish her final goal. Hearing her story about all the jobs she has had since the age of fourteen encouraged me to always work hard to reach my goal and never give up. She worked hard since youth and it is all benefiting her now. I am sure my mother did not want to work at all the places that she did, but it all paid off in the long run. At first she wanted to be a nurse; now, she is a medical assistant.
