POLS NOTES EXAM #2 Current Events: Introduction of “The World’s Greatest Healthcare plan” o Replacement to Obamacare o What does it involve? Simplified: its getting rid of individual mandate to require people to have insurance (no more tax) Replacing it with an alternative punishment or incentive to stay insured. If you let your plan last and try to get that insurance back you would have a 30% premium tax to get your tax plan again New bill gets rid of requirements for large companies to help its employees The new plan has an aged tax credit program You get this if you are ages 19-30 you get a premium on this o We are breaking this up into small agencies o Increase in amount you can charge old customers Before 3 time as much as young people Now 5 times as much as young people o GOP: health savings accounts Allowing people to save more in their savings account o Changes to Medicaid: GOP wants to phase out Medicaid expansion that happened in the last Republicans want to phase it from a matching grant to a program that gives money to states based on per capital and how much they are spending every year (cutting funds going to Medicaid program) Allowing more people to enter into Medicaid after 2020 o Keeping ACA (some others) Ban on lifetime coverage rates o Freezing funds for planned parenthood No longer eligible for Medicaid reimbursements o Republicans want an answer and want to vote on this bill by the end of April (very speedy) New immigration ban freeze o Changes to original ban (March 16 th ) Iraq was removed from this list Will protect green card holders and other groups Syrian groups still banned (not indefinitely) Taken preferences out from certain minority groups (refugees will be allowed in again) Republicans are trying to make it as easy as possible International Women’s Day in world history o Marry Curry: first women to receive a noble prize on radio activity First woman to be a professor in Paris o Lisa Metner: worked in radio activity and nuclear physics Discovered nuclear fusion

Senate: 6 years; House: 2 years House of Representatives: have to actively be changing things quicker because they run for re-election so quickly
