Kuzio 1 Skyler Kuzio Professor Servino Composing Arguments 4 October 2016 A Leader or a Follower? As the primary democratic candidate for President in 2016, Hillary Clinton has millions of Americans ready to vote. Although in the political realm for 30 years, her big start in politics started in 2004 when she was a Senator of New York. Four years later, Clinton ran a campaign against President Barack Obama before he was elected the Democratic nominee. From the start of her political career to the current election, many of her policies have stayed the same while others have changed drastically. Clinton s social policies have changed more than her economic ones due to voters desire for more social freedoms. The 2012 Democratic Party Platform stated, We support the right of all families to have equal respect, responsibilities, and protections under the law. We support marriage equality and support the movement to secure equal treatment under law for same-sex couples. ”  Recently, Hillary Clin- ton has complied with these words and led Americans to believe she has always been in full sup- port of same-sex marriage; however, her views have not always aligned with those of the Demo- cratic Party. In 2004, Clinton was a New York senator. On a televised Senate decision debating a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage she stated, I believe that marriage is not just a bond but a sacred bond between man and woman. ”  Four years later, Clinton was a presidential candidate in the 2008 election who supported civil unions but went on air saying, I have not supported same-sex marriage. ”  Now, as primary Democratic candidate for 2016 Clinton is in 100 percent support of marriage for same-sex couples.
