Statistical Infrequency : o Compare the frequency of behavior to others (i.e., it is rare) o Examples: Others are out to get me!!! Disability or Dysfunction : o Thoughts, emotion, or actions that interfere with ability to function in own life AND within society. o Examples: Adult : Thoughts of persecution keep you from going to work or out into open places (agoraphobia ) Teen : Primary criteria for drug abuse Children: Not able to be in classroom, not playing with other kids, disruptive behavior 3. Personal Distress : o The individual’s judgment of his/her own functioning level. o Children = parental/teacher judgment o Examples:
