Kuzio 1 Skyler Kuzio Dr. Angel English 1020 3 April 2017 Government Surveillance and Why It s Unconstitutional In an age ruled by technology, safety and our continuing freedom for our country has be- come a growing concern. In George Orwell s 1984, The Big Brother Theory arises as people are constantly being watched through cameras by their government. This dystopian style book de- picted nothing readers saw in America, or so they though. In the past, The expansion of Wash- ington s national security states - lets call it NSS - to gargantuan proportions has historically met with little opposition. In the wake of the Edward Snowden revelations, however, some resistance has arisen ”  (Greenwald 14). These revelations were leaks of thousands of classified documents that disclosed the close eye the government has been keeping on its civilians. Everything from tapping into cameras, phone calls, text messages, and internet searches have been the NSA s job to find dirt on antigovernment organizations and terror networks. Ever since the leak of this in- formation people have been up in arms due to the loss of our civil liberties and fourth amend- ment rights. As our technology has increased, so have attacks and violence. It has become controlled by the cyber world through hidden aliases and behind closed doors. With the masking of identi- ties and plans, stopping these attacks have become more complex; however, the intricacies of these offenses have slowly been taking away our freedom, privacy, and civil liberties. Kuzio 2 into the ramifications of government surveillance and tried to answer the question that is whether or not this NSA spying is constitutional or not. The Big Brother theory has been one enforced by many government officials, yet op- posed by its citizens. If a democracy is based on representing what the people want, then when it comes to government surveillance, they are not being represented fairly. By watching over the citizens of America, it is giving the government too much power and taking away many of our rights to privacy; therefore, the government should not have access to all information, technol- ogy, and searches.
