THE IKEA Slide 1(Galyna Baranetska) BACKGROUND: IKEA is an internationally known home furnishing retailer. It has grown rapidly since it was founded in 1943. The Ikea Group of Companies has around 150 stores in 22 countries. It was founded in 1943, and in 2001 had a turnover of 11.3 billion euros. It employs 70,000 people, and purchases its raw materials from more than 50 countries, principally China, Sweden, Poland, Germany and Italy. Today it is the world's largest furniture retailer, recognised for its Scandinavian style. The majority of IKEA's furniture is flat-pack, ready to be assembled by the consumer. This allows a reduction in costs and packaging. IKEA carries a range of 9,500 products, including home furniture and accessories. This wide range is available in all IKEA stores and customers can order much of the range online through IKEA's website. Founded in Sweden in 1943 by then-17-year-old Ingvar Kamprad , who was listed as one of the world's richest people in 2013, the company's name is an acronym that consists of the initials of Ingvar Kamprad, Elmtaryd (the farm where he grew up), and Agunnaryd (his hometown in Småland , southern Sweden). The company is known for its modern architectural designs for various types of appliances and furniture, and its interior design work is often associated with an eco-friendly simplicity. In addition, the firm is known for its attention to cost control, operational details, and continuous product development, corporate attributes that allowed IKEA to lower its prices by an average of two to three percent over the decade to 2010 during a period of global expansion. Slide 2 (Joy Chomis) The company is responsible for approximately 1% of world commercial-product wood consumption, making it one of the largest users of wood in the retail sector.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
