Name _________________________________ Period ________ Date ________ Biology CPA BLACK BOX Students shake, rattle, and roll these “Black Boxes” to try to determine the insides.. but no peeking. EVER!! THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE ACTIVITY The term “black box” refers to any object with hidden inner workings. Investigators can explore behavior, but cannot determine exact details of the objects’ inside. In science, narrowing the possibilities and agreeing on the best explanation is what it is all about. Having an “answer” is not always possible, given available data, tools, and techniques. Scientists discuss observations and together determine the best explanation. The “answer” may change from time to time with the discovery of new tools that give further data. Black boxes model the process used to understand actual “black boxes” in sciences (i.e.- planet Earth, an atom). We cannot just slice the Earth or an atom in half to see if we are correct about its internal structure.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
