Surname 1 Name Tutor Date Class American Independent Film Question 2 An independent film is a movie production, which results in a feature movie that its principal part or the whole of it is produced outside of the major conventional studio system such as Hollywood, Pinewood, or Bollywood. It is also known as an indie film, and they are distributed by independent entertainment agencies. Their style and content are unique, and their primary aim is to accomplish the filmmaker's personal artistic vision. In addition, they are produced in a relatively lower budget than the major studio films. These films are made outside the traditional or mainstream parameters. I think what Levy means by commercial success is the state of indie films in the market. Currently, they do not offer stiff competition to the major studio movies because they are produced on a lower budget and outside the known conventional studio system. This has affected their popularity and received a lot of criticism from people. This is the reason that drives Levy to say, "Now the independent film is judged by its commercial success, not by its aesthetic daring or narrative quality."

Surname 2 Personally, what Levy means by aesthetic daring is the attention and energy that artist put towards the production of indie films. They spend all their resources to see to it that the film is produced of high quality and will satisfy the audience. The narrative quality means the quality of the story being told by the movie. They present us with the reality of the world and helps us to understand ourselves better. These independent films have a good narrative story, which is unified, moral, insightful, believable, and respectable.
