English 102 Research Essay Spring 2017 Professor (hard copy enclosed with Dear Reader letter, draft/peer review and uploaded to Turn It In) Choose one of the following to explore in a research-based essay. Option 1: Using the ideas discussed in Adichie’s Ted Talk, “The Danger of the Single Story,” choose two or three characters from the works we have read and explore how the author expands on or challenges the “single-story” through his or her depictions of these characters. For example, you could look at masculinity in the characters in “Say Yes,” “Cathedral,” and/or “Bullet in the Brain”; representations of female identity, black identity or immigrant identity in the characters of Intimate Apparel or Americanah. You are encouraged to support your interpretation with literary theory, which is introduced in the chapter of Writing About Literature titled Specialized Approaches to Interpreting Literature, as well as other relevant outside sources.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
