1 Essay Instructions General Suggestions A good essay will have gone through several revisions before you turn it in. When you’re writing, imagine your audience as generally well-educated, but without specific knowledge of the issue you are discussing. Before, during, and after your essay, refer to the grading rubric. This is how I will grade your essay, so think about whether your essay stacks up well to that checklist. Section 1: Introductory Paragraph (10 points) An introductory paragraph is usually about half of a page. A good introductory paragraph will give the reader confidence that you understand the main topic and can describe it in general terms. But don’t get too specific. For instance, you shouldn’t have any quotes this early in your paper. Save the specific stuff for the bulk of your paper You should give a general description of the position that you plan on discussing in the essay. You absolutely must include a clear thesis statement that is, a personal opinion (and yes, it is OK to use the word “I”) about the issue. Remember, opinions are not bad. They are only bad if you don’t later support them with reasons. So here, in the first paragraph, it is OK to just state your opinion on the issue. Section 2: Analysis of the Business Case (15 points) The length of the section is flexible. Depending on how complicated the issue is you are discussing, this section may be anywhere from one and a half to two and a half pages. This is the time to summarize the main features, particularly the morally relevant issues, of the problem you are discussing.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
