CRITIQUE OF QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE 2 Critique of Quantitative and Qualitative Articles Research Design There are four main types of research designs: 1) explanatory research design, 2) experimental research design, 3) diagnostic research deign, and 4) descriptive research design. Knutsson and Bergbom (2015) used a qualitative descriptive research design in their research. A qualitative descriptive research design comprehensively summarizes specific events that individuals or groups of individuals experience. According to C. Lambert and C. Lambert, compared to other qualitative designs, a qualitative descriptive research should be categorical and less interpretive, because the researcher does not need to move far from data, neither does he or she require a highly abstract or conceptual rendering of the data. As is the case with most qualitative descriptive research designs, Knutsson’s and Bergbom’s (2015) research is most preferred if they want to improve practice. The researchers are interested in describing and understanding children’s thoughts and feelings as relates to visiting critically ill family members or relatives in an adult ICU, making the qualitative descriptive design the most appropriate.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
