Robert Myers MODULE 1 LESSON 01.03: ASSESSMENT 1. Explain how cells specialize to form specific tissue and organs. All cells in an individual organism have the same DNA. The cells specialize from each other by the genes they express. Cells have certain genes they turn on and off in by the type of cell they are making. This takes place in the embryotic stage of a cell. According to the article, “His was the first organ of its kind to be completely grown in a lab using the patient's own cells.” Beyene’s cells were used in a lab to grow new windpipe from stem cells with his own DNA in it already, to insure it would not be rejected by his body. 2. Explain what is already being accomplished in the areas of tissue and organ bioengineering and what still remains to be accomplished. As of right now, bioengineers have successfully created a way for individuals to make organs out of the patients own cells. Also, creation of tissues and organs from 3D printers and skin guns is already being achieved. But, according to the article they are a long ways away from overcoming all obstacles. "A
