Sheba MasihAssignment #4: Types of Ambulatory Care CentersHMGT 420 Health Care Facilities ManagementProfessor: Jerome BozekApril 30, 20171
Over the years, Ambulatory care centers have continued to increase in the health care community. ACCs are making a positivetrend in health care. Ambulatory care is known as medical treatment provided on an outpatient basis. Patients appreciate ambulatory care centers because they are less expensive than an inpatient hospitalization. Because of this, ambulatory care has emerged as the fastest growing segment of the health care market in the US. The results of the expansion of ambulatory care have brought nothing but positive outcomes such as the improvements in medical technology and the level of home health nursing care available. There are a variety of fully established ACCs in the United States. The types of ambulatory care settings are urgent care clinics, outpatient surgical centers, radiology and imaging practices, physical and rehabilitation clinics, renal dialysis centers and even cosmetic surgery spas. Urgent care clinics “Urgent Care Medicine (UCM) is the provision of immediate medical service offering outpatient care for the treatment of acute and chronic illness and injury. It requires a broad and comprehensive fund of knowledge to provide such care. Excellence in care for patients with complex and or unusual conditions is founded on the close communication and collaboration between the urgent care medicine physician, the specialists and the primary physicians” (AAUCM, 2016). An urgent care center is a convenient option when someone's regular physician is on vacation or unable to offer a timely appointment or when illness strikes outside of regular office hours, urgent care offers an alternative to waiting for hours in a hospital Emergency Room. Urgent care centers are increasingly becoming more convenient for patients than traditional hospitals. Without the hassle of sitting in a waiting room and the affordable cost for care, patients tend to choose UCC. Examples of UCC include: Baton Rouge Clinic, Skagit Regional Clinic, and Frisco Urgent Care.
