Hawthore Reading- HW Question Why did the puritans get so upset over Maypole activities in Merry-Mount? I. Protest Reformation II. Reformation in England III. “A model of Christian Charity” Winthrop- sermon given to people on ship about the goals of the new colony. Most important sermon in American history. Its not like all the other colonies…we have a special covenant with god and if we are faithful and follow God rules and regulations then God will bless us but if the fail- God will destroy us. All the rules were based on the bible. The bible gave an outline for the perfect govt. “city upon a hill” holy experiment. Back in England people will see how peaceful and godly and successful that they will be asked to set up a city upon a hill in England. Errands into the wilderness IV. National Covenant- God had a special covenant with America, God loves us the best. 1980-Reagon “city upon a hill”- attached to his presidency at his death. God will destroy our enemies, soviet union V.
