Sociology – the scientific study of social behavior and human groups. Sociological imagination - awareness of the relationship between the individual and the wider society. Theory – used to explain problems, actions, or behavior Verstehen – insight, in intellectual work Functionalist perspective society is structured in ways that maintains stability and change takes a long time. Conflict perspective – emphasizes conflict between two groups and change tends to be quick and revolutionary. Feminist perspective stresses gender as the key to understanding social interactions. Integrationist perspective – concerned with the way that individuals shape our society and how we are shaped by it. Scientific method – 1. Defining the problem. 2. Reviewing the literature. 3. Formulate a hypothesis. 4. Selecting the research design and collecting data. 5. Develop a conclusion. Hypothesis – states a relationship between one or two variables, usually one independent and one dependent. Sample
