Emily Hansen 4/18/17 FDINT 215 China What are some factors that led to China's going from having the world's largest economy to being overtaken as a superpower by the West in the 19th and 20th centuries? The one thing that hurt China’s economy the most and what set the Europeans to the top is trade. One big trade item was weaponry and making it as well as trading it. It says in the reading,” China did not industrialize in the way that the West did. Europe had learned of gunpowder from China in the Middle Ages, but by the 19th century Europeans were far better at using it to get their way.” The west was more persuasive and got the job done. They earned more and brought it with in there nation so that it would help there economy the most. How does the saying "Sweep the snow from your own house, don't worry about the frost on your neighbor's roof" describe China through its history? This was interesting when I was reading it because I didn’t think about them doing this throughout
