Spring 2008 Eng 009-314 The Hidden God Jarrett Anthony Has the “It” evolved? Joseph Roach, theater historian and author wrote when describing the modern celebrity that they possess “It”: “a certain quality, easy to perceive but hard to define, possessed by abnormally interesting people.” However, is Roach’s definition of “It” lacking something or has the “It” developed to include an aura of sexuality and lust. The June issue of Vanity Fair featuring Mile Cyrus seems to suggest that the “It” quality which American popular culture desires is that of sexual deviance and promiscuity. Roach relates the concept of modern day celebrity, those who possess the “It” quality, to the infamy of biblical icons such as saints and martyrs.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
