PHYS-1200 PHYSICS II SPRING 2005 Class 15 Activity: Interference of waves and standing waves Superposition of Waves – Qualitatively Open the Maple file “pulses.mws”. A link to the file can be found at the Physics II website, under “Class activities”. Position the cursor on the first command, “restart”, and execute it by hitting “enter”. Execute the next seven commands by hitting “enter” seven more times. The program should draw a graph of two positive pulses. Animate the figure by right clicking on it and selecting “Animate” and then “play”. The pulses should move toward each other, and through each other. 1. When the two pulses completely overlap, how does the shape of the new pulse compare to the shape of the two component pulses? 2. The two pulses in the program combine by superposition.
