Charlene Kabongo Africana Studies Lange: W.E.B. DuBois and the first scientific study of Afro America Summary: The late nineteenth century was a great time prevailing notions of white supremacy and a time of backless science. However this also became a time for black scholars, playing critical role in establishing a scientific approach in African American studies. In this particular reading we come across William Edward Burghardt DuBois, the first social scientist of, for and by Afro-American. Although W.E.B DuBois was not recognized as an anthropologist in the early years he later made a lot of contributions that couldn’t be ignored. During 1894 to 1915 Dubois faced a number of challenges but also accomplishments of his 9 publications of the First ethnography of Afro-American. Although Riots due to the Jim Crow emerged and even caused an invasion to W.E.B Dubois home, he took the negativity and challenges and inverted into positivity and beginning his work in the scientific study of his people.
