Second edition. Pp. 48-50. Question : What do you think Turner meant by the term “Americanization”? Frederick Jackson Turner felt that western expansion had a very large impact on the social, political and economic development of the United States. (49) In his “frontier thesis” in 1893, Turner described the frontier as a line that advanced across the United States from East to West. He felt very strongly that the frontier was what made us who we are today and it shaped the United State’s character. (49) Reconstruction gave a lot of confidence to the people. The people that came from Europe to the colonies were encouraged by reconstruction to move throughout the country to all different areas. (49) Europeans were suffering from the effects of
