Quakers didn’t like to have paintings made of them (showed Vanity) William Penn wanted PA to be named Sylvania, but Charles added Penn on the beginning to  honor Penn Sr. Penn’s father was an Admiral in the English Navy 1664 Battle of Loft 1620-1674 The two biggest Naval powers were England and Holland 1654- English destroyed Dutch naval fleet in battle 1655 Church of England started James, Charles believed in Monarch supremacy Puritans and Presbyterians believed that the King should be on the level as Parliament ---- Quakers coined the term “Visible Saint” to describe people who lived their life in an approved  way 1640- English civil war (King Charles beheaded) Penn (Sr.) becomes Puritans admiral 1658- Penn (Sr. ) eventually shows his approval of Charles II as the next King Penn loans the King money Because of this fact, William Penn (Jr) grew up in ruling class
