BIO 1510 exam #3 study guide 11/19/07 OTHER CROSSES (Co-dominance, multiple alleles, incomplete dominance, sex-linked traits): 1. What are the possible blood types of the offspring of a cross between individuals that are type AB and type O?  A person with type AB blood has a genotype of I A I B . A person with type O blood has a genotype of ii Answer: 50% of the offspring will have type A blood and 50% of the offspring will have type B blood (all will be heterozygous) 2. Suppose a father of blood type A and a mother of blood type B have a child of type O. What blood types are possible in  their subsequent children? A man with type A blood’s genotype may be I A i or I A I A . A woman with type B blood’s genotype may be I B i or I B I B . Thus, there are 4 possible crosses: Answer: The only cross that yields a child with type O blood is #4; thus, we know the father’s genotype is I A i and the mom’s is I B i. Thus, their subsequent kids could have blood type AB, B, A, or O. 3. Suppose a father and mother claim they have been given the wrong baby at the hospital. Both parents are blood type A.  The baby they have been given is blood type O. Do they have the wrong baby or are they just ignorant of how blood type is  inherited? Both parents with type A blood could have a genotype of either I
