Treatments, microarray, meiosis intro. -Treatment: Chemotherapy used to prevent blood vessels that supply blood to tumors *Anti-angiogenesis *Tumors must have sufficient blood flow to continue cell division *Tumors evolve: only tumor cells near blood vessels or that can attract them or that can attract the blood vessels survive *Drugs directed at new blood vessels that come to help tumor *Doesn’t work well in children (lots of growing and lots of blood vessels) *Be careful with injuries or surgeries because drugs will stop new blood vessels from emerging *Adults don’t grow many blood vessels usually compared to children -Treatments are usually used in conjunction with each other *Remove most of tumor w/ surgery and use chemotherapy to kill rest *Appropriate treatment depends on kind o cancer *For malignant—surgery not a good idea because some will be left -Detecting Cancer or Types of Cancer (Microarray) *Chip w/ DNA sequences bound to surface at known locations *Used to track kor monitor expression of many genes
