Charlie Gordon and his life were an inspiring but tragic story. Throughout the excerpt from Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes, Charlie Gordon, the main character goes through many emotional and physical changes. Charlie changes a lot as a person in the three parts. In this story, Charlie wants to become smart and so he agrees to go through a surgery to increase his intelligence. At the end of the story, Charlie becomes smarter and can understand more things around him. He also starts to lose his friends, and his job as well. Not long after the surgery, Charlie’s intelligence began to regress and he goes back to his old self.
