Journalism 1 Mr. Jack Stenger Spring Semester 2017: Newswriting Assignment #1 To Computer Lab, Wednesday, February 8 Final draft due: Thursday, February 16 On Monday (2/6), Tracye Hutchins anchor for CBS 46 Atlanta, came to our in-class “press conference.” Her visit is opportunity for us to write another news story. Source Materials Notes I provide + your notes. (Show me you took notes) 1) Come up with a strong lead. Your lead can be a summary lead, a single-item lead, or a scenic lead, or even a creative lead. The over-arching story is: “The opportunities and sacrifices associated with being a broadcast newscaster.” 2) Include quotes – direct quotes – from the interview with Ms. Hutchins. One quarter (25 percent) of your story will need to be direct quotes from our sources. 3) Make it interesting. Watch your transitions. Source quotes accurately. Talk to classmates to get quotes about TH’s visit. Find out facts. Do some reporting work! 4) Do not write in first-person. (No “I,” “me.”) Have paragraphs and keep them short. .

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
