Alesha Grimes Think Sheet 5 The basic emotions include happiness, anger, sadness and fear. Happiness consists of a smile which starts from birth, a social smile that happens during the 6-10 weeks of a baby’s life and then laughter which happens when a baby is 3-4 months. Anger deals with general distress which starts from birth and anger which occurs when a child is between 4-6 months. Sadness deals with distress to “still face” this occurs when a child is between 2-7 months. First fears happen between 6-12 months and stranger anxiety occurs when a child is between 8-12 months. As for the self-conscious emotions, that deals with guilt, shame, embarrassment, envy and pride. These particular emotions occur in the middle of the second year.
