I. Debt of Great War for empire a. George Greenville i. Currency Act: said that none of the colonies could issue money 1. Hurt because all of the colonies were already short on money as it was ii. Stamp Act: meant that a stamp had to be purchased for almost every printed material made 1. Newspapers 2. Pamphlets 3. Wills 4. Deeds 5. Dice 6. Cards 7. Pissed of lawyers because everything they needed to file req’d stamps then 8. Pissed off sailors because they liked to play card etc. iii. Townsend duties 1. Modest duties on lead, tea 2. Seized a ship 3. British redcoats were sent in to stop 4. People began to boycott British goods as a major form of protest 5. Parliament buckled and repealed duties on everything except for te iv. Rise of Boston Radicals was much more violent with a riot: hung the stamp distributor and destroyed his office and his house
