Shakespeare once said, “if you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?” Despite his words of support towards revenge as a natural method of brining justice to wrongdoings, this theory is greatly of contradicted subsequent a reading of his play, Hamlet . Through analysing the characters in the play and their quest of vengeance, it is discovered that, although acts of revenge and vengeance may provide satisfaction on the pretense of justice and self gratification, the route to revenge creates complications that eventually lead to the destruction of the fulfilment which one hoped to obtain. To prove this idea, a thorough analysis on the revenge of Hamlet and Laertes is conducted. To begin, as the main protagonist of the play, Hamlet sought revenge against his uncle, Claudius, after gaining knowledge of his crime of murder against the Old King Hamlet.
