RESULTS REPORT SIMULATION TITLE: Virtual Teams SIMULATION DESCRIPTION: Curtis Precision Manufacturing is putting together a virtual team for sales and planning. The chief operating officer must predict the risks and benefits and adapt to changing events. You earned 96 percent. Background You are the chief operating officer at Curtis Precision Manufacturing, a company that produces industrial supplies and equipment and sells them locally. You have a traditional work environment in which all of the sales and customer service personnel are located in a central office. As sales increase, however, you are thinking of creating a virtual team that will be spread across the U.S., thereby taking advantage of industry talent outside your region that could add value to Curtis. You will need to evaluate the potential risks and benefits of a virtual team, and then adapt the team to meet any challenges that may arise.
Benefits of a Virtual Team Before committing to the idea of creating a virtual team, you will need to be able to convince the CEO that this would be a desirable way for Curtis to operate. Which of the following would be the most likely benefits of switching to a virtual team? You selected cost savings for the company, greater mobility for customer service people, and greater flexibility for team members as the most likely benefits of virtual teams. These were the best choices. Virtual teams would save the company money on facilities, allow customer service people to be closer to where they are needed, and allow team members to set their own schedules. Discuss with CEO You send your proposal to the CEO, who requests a meeting to discuss the subject further. Virtual Teams – Saving Money You talk to the CEO, who says: “I'm not sure about virtual teams. I like having the whole team under one roof. You said that this could be a cost savings, but I need more information. How would a virtual team save the company money?”
YOU CHOSE OPTION 1 Switching to virtual teams will allow Curtis to spend less on renting office space, since team members can work from their homes or in other regions where the rent is cheaper.
