The topic at hand asks for a discussion of gender socialization in adolescent children. The way in which toys, magazines, board games, and television are used may have negative, or positive influences on a young individual. After further analysis of the reading material, I believe there are many ways in which gender socialization is imposed upon individuals before they have reached adulthood. This is an obvious fact, but what’s the correlating problem? Many believe outside influences have negative impacts on young individuals toward gender roles before they can make decisions for themselves regarding which paths in life they want to pursue. Individuals are being ‘pushed’ into a stereotypical American norm before they can recite their ABC’s. To a certain extent I believe this is very true. Toys, board games, and movie stars can impose negative influences on individuals who engage in such actions, whereas these influences are more detrimental during the adolescent ages.
